Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization
The Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization for the Gainesville Urbanized Area is responsible for the continuing, comprehensive, and cooperative transportation planning program for the Gainesville Metropolitan Area. This planning program is required in order to receive federal and state funds for highway, transit, bicycle and pedestrian transportation projects.

DESCRIPTION: As directed by the Gainesville & Alachua County Transportation Planning Organization (GACTPO) Governing
Board at its March 2, 2026, meeting, the GACTPO, serving in its role as the MPO, will be conducting a meeting on
Comprehensive Transit Governance and Planning. This meeting is intended to begin discussions for a comprehensive and
coordinated transit system that provides transit services countywide and to discuss RTS governance or moving towards
an independent transit authority. Participating agencies include representatives from the University of Florida (UF),
Regional Transit System (RTS), City of Gainesville, and Alachua County. The meeting is open to the public, and public
participation is encouraged.
